The Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC), as Spain’s National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC) within the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) network of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC / UNESCO), manages, preserves and disseminates marine data and metadata generated through more than a century of oceanographic research. The IEO’s Oceanographic Data Centre was established in 1968 and has since played a key role in the management and international exchange of Spain’s oceanographic data.
